Just saw the new Flatliner movie and immediately started searching blog or articles stating philosophical view on the movie.

I didn’t found much to my satisfaction decided to write one of my own. Firstly I am not going to discuss which one was better remake or old, although older one had Julia Roberts. Secondly, theme is so intriguing why discuss about other matters.

In short some doctors from Med-school, make themselves dead for some minutes and their colleagues revive them. These flatliners find themselves extra conscious and aware after the event which contributes success to their career and Euphoria over all. Just when they are thinking it is boon the other side starts showing up and they are discussing whether an evil entity or darkness has overcome them. Here is where I said COME ON, loudly looking at the TV screen just then one of the characters sensibly says you are Doctors, there should be rational explanation for this. And there is!

Euphoria could be closely related to the term “Samadhi” in Indian Philosophy. In Patanjali Yog Sutra to attain that position you have to go through various stages of sensitivity. Sensitiveness is a very tricky for human beings, as it is viewed in such a negative light now a days. Being sensitive to things and environment opens up vast world of extraordinary abilities to human beings, and that’s what happened to those doctors, they could remember they had read once and relate quickly or enjoy things but at the same time open to getting hurt for feeling too much about bad things.

Nature doesn’t differentiate good or bad but we do and in the movie they also did and remembered their deeds which they felt guilty about. Now though- they are more sensitive, also to the things once they thought they have forgotten but subconsciously fed to the brain same as the knowledge from Med- books. Here is why I remember Uncle Ben with different saying, ” With great sensitive ability comes?á great acceptance”. Does this makes sense?

It is not some entity who makes us crazy but ourselves not prepared to accept our actions and decisions. Everyone does lot of mistakes and is reason for other person’s sadness by accident or purposefully though we can have another chance by forgiving ourselves not just once but again and again.
